HOW MUCH DOES A KITCHEN/ BATHROOM COST?

The cost is all down to your choice of door, style, appliances etc etc. A basic landlord kitchen will usually start from around £1000 excluding appliances and fitting ranging into the hundreds of thounsands for a totally bespoke footballers kitchen. The best course of action is to research the design and style you would like first to get a idea of cost then be open and honest with the company you choose to go with. Alot of customers we come across do not like giving an idea of their budget but that doesn’t help either side. It is always best to be open from the beggining. If the kitchen boils down to cost alone we can point you in the right direction of style and design rather than wasting each others time.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO FIT A KITCHEN?

We at CDI like to be open and honest when it comes down to fitting costs and try to give you an exact quote which will not change. Sometimes, however we come across unforeseen circumstances which may need addressing such as rotten floors, plaster falling off etc. In these instances we will always stop work, figure out what needs doing and price the additional work alongside yourself. We never complete additional work without your express permision and go ahead as you may want to get a second opinion or trades person to complete the work.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO FIT A BATHROOM?

On average a bathroom fit usually takes around 2 weeks to complete to a high standard. You can find trades that will do it faster but we have found that they will cut corners or use plastic panels instead of tiles to speed the process up. We like to take our time and make sure the fit is the best we can possibly achieve for the customer.

WHY DOES HERRINGBONE TILING COST MORE?

To ensure the pattern is centralised and, if on a wall, wraps round even without tiny cuts it can sometimes take hours and thats all done before a tile is fitted. While laying the tile in that pattern on a wall you can only go so high as the weight starts to move the pattern. At that point you hve to let the adhesive go off or set before you can carry on. The time involved is the cost factor.

SHOULD I FIT THE FLOOR BEFORE THE KITCHEN?

From a fitting and cost view yes! It is always easier to fit a floor in a empty room when possible as you dont have to cut round end panels and any other obstructions that will be there after the kitchen is fitted.

HOW LONG DOES PLASTERING TAKE TO DRY?

The drying time for plaster can vary depending on factors like temperature and humidity. In most cases, it takes about 1 to 2 days for plaster to dry. However, it’s essential to allow it to dry fully before painting or applying wallpaper, which can take up to a week.

CAN I PLASTER OVER EXISTING PLASTER?

Yes, you can plaster over existing plaster as long as the existing plaster surface is sound and free of loose or da,aged plaster. However, it’s essential to prepare the surface properly by cleaning, priming and ensuring a good bond with the new plaster.

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SKIM COATING AND FULL PLASTERING?

Skim coating involves applying a thin layer of plaster, usually about 2-3mm, to create a smooth finish. Full plastering involves applying a thicker layer of plaster, often to repair or recondition a wall or ceiling with more significant imperfections.

WHAT IS ARTEX AND CAN IT BE PLASTERED OVER?

Artex is a textured surface often found on ceilings and walls. It can be plastered over, but it’s essential to prepare the surface properly by smoothing it out before applying plaster.

WHY DO YOU ASK FOR DEPOSITS/ MONEY UP FRONT?

We ask for up to 3 deposits depending if we are supplying goods/ materials: • £50 - this is to secure a diary slot with us. We have in the past turned up to start a job only to find it was completed by someone else. It is non refundable but if given enough notice we don’t mind changing dates to accomodate our customers needs. • Material deposit - this is to cover the cost of ordering a kitchen/ bathroom/ roof. We only ask for this when all prices have been agreed and we know the lead times for ordering. Most bathrooms for instance only need to be ordered the week before whilst a kitchen can be several months. • Consumable deposit - depnding on the project we will ask for a deposit on day one to cover the cost of consumables to be used, skip hire, equipment hire etc • Staged payments - if we are on a large or long project we will usually ask for staged payments to cover staff wages and/ or consumables. This would normally be weekly but is all agreed before hand.

CAN I SUPPLY MY OWN GOODS?

In short - Yes. Although, we cannot guarantee the products so if something is faulty or doesn’t turn up in time during the job there may be additional costs involved from our side should we need to replace or wait around to complete any works.
